The most common reason an oven light stops working is simply a blown bulb. Oven bulbs are special high-temperature bulbs rated for 300°C+. Standard household bulbs cannot be used as a replacement.
Replacing the Bulb Yourself
In most ovens, bulb replacement is a DIY task. Always let the oven cool completely, then unscrew the glass cover and replace with an equivalent oven bulb (typically G9 or E14 fitting, 25–40W). Bulbs cost £3–£8.
If a New Bulb Doesn't Fix It
If a new bulb doesn't solve the problem, there is likely a fault with the bulb holder socket or the wiring. An engineer can fix this for £60–£100 in most cases.
